Introducing Our Senior Pet Wellness Program
Our pets are now living longer, thanks primarily to advances
in veterinary medical care and to owners who are better informed
about their pet’s health. Thus, there has been an increased need
for us at Milford Animal Hospital (MAH) to provide more
comprehensive routine health evaluations for our senior pets.
Our pets are very important to us, as they provide us with
companionship and unconditional love. As pet owners ourselves,
we at MAH are dedicated to helping our pets live longer with the
best possible quality of life. As a result, we have designed a
comprehensive wellness program four our senior pets.
The “senior” age of the dog is considered eight years and older.
Cats are seniors at the age of ten and older. Changes in
behavior, physical condition, and function of body systems may
occur at any age, but are more likely to occur during the senior
years. It is at this stage of life that additional physical
exams, lab work, and preventative medicine are most needed for
early detection and prevention of potential problems.
We at MAH have designed a plan specifically for your senior
pets. This plan provides valuable services to you at a 20%
discounted cost and
cannot be used with any other discount. Every pet will receive
the following:
Comprehensive physical exam
CBC: Complete blood cell count that tests for
anemia, inflammation, infection, bone marrow dysfunction,
and other problems
Chemistry profile: A group of tests that aids in
detection of problems associated with internal organ
function (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal tract),
endocrine system (diabetes), electrolytes, muscle/bone, etc.
T4: A test used to detect thyroid disease
(hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism)
Tonometry: Measures the pressure in each eye to
test for glaucoma, a disease that can lead to blindness
Blood pressure: Tests for hypertension, a disease
that can lead to problems such as heart disease, kidney
disease, and blindness
Fecal exam: Checks for the presence of intestinal
parasites, such as worms and protozoa
Urinalysis: Assesses the function and health of
the kidneys and urinary bladder
Pets that are scheduled for senior wellness exams should
be dropped off at our hospital between 7:30 and 8:00 on the
morning of their scheduled appointment. For your
convenience, fecal and urine collection kits may be acquired
at our hospital in advance of your appointment, so that you
may drop the samples off with your pet. You will also be
asked to fill out a “Senior Care Health Checklist,” which
will help us to better address any obvious problems that may
already be occurring with your pet.
We appreciate that pet owners today desire more thorough and
progressive veterinary care for their pets as they age, and
it is our goal and responsibility at MAH to provide it to
them. If you are interested in our senior wellness program,
please call our office at 513-831-5530 to schedule a
drop-off appointment at least one week in advance. Thank you
very much for allowing us to care for your senior pet.
